Everyone at Monkeyshines Media, Inc., volunteers their time and effort to putting out the best zine that we can. We want the zine to look great and deliver outstanding content to our readers. But quality costs money. The editorial team has over 30 years experience in printing and graphic design, so we know our way around the industry to get the best cost-to-quality ratio, and we do as much as we can in-house to keep costs down. So while we keep costs to a minimum, we spend hundreds of dollars printing and shipping each issue. That’s why we ask for your donations.
We Need You
Does anyone like asking strangers for money? We sure don’t. And we don’t want anyone go out of their way to give us something that they can’t afford. In fact, the guy that writes our copy wanted to put a list of all the other things you could spend your money on before you consider giving us money. We’re really not into the hard sell here.
What we’re asking is this: Donate to Monkeyshines if you want to. We want to print our zine and send them out to everybody who wants one, and to do that we need funding. So if you’re willing and able, any amount is appreciated. We’ve tried to make it as painless as possible to donate to us, too.
Let’s Restate Some Things that May Influence Your Support
- Monkeyshines Media, Inc. is a registered not-for-profit in the state of New York.
- Monkeyshines Media, Inc.’s board of directors, its officers, and employees are volunteers. We draw no salaries or other payments.1
- Your donation may be tax-deductible! We are a 501(c)(3) charity, and most donations will qualify as deductible for US income tax filers.2
- All donated money will go to the publishing and distribution of that quarter’s issue, and any net proceeds will be donated to other non-profit art or writing programs on Long Island.

That’s through Ko-Fi, and using it you can pay via PayPal or a credit card. It’s quick, you’ll get a receipt, and we’ll put a thank-you to you in the zine!
There are a couple of old-fashioned ways to donate: via check or direct cash. These are appreciated, because there are no merchant fees in between your donation and our organization. If you want to send a check, you can make it out to Monkeyshines Media, Inc. and send it to:

You can put “Fundraising” or “Donation” in the memo area if you like. If you require a receipt for tax purposes, let us know, and we’ll send one out to you.
If you donate via cash, we must give you a receipt for our records and yours at that time, which means if you accost us on the street and demand to give us money, we do appreciate it, but we may not be able to accept it. Also, please do not mail cash.
The Future of Donations
We’ll be setting up memberships with a Patreon account, where you can support us automatically each quarter with a repeating donation. And we now have merch! Every zine should have merch, and if there is something you’d like to see with our shiny monkey’s face, let us know at [email protected]. For the high rollers, we offer underwriting opportunities as well. With sponsored underwriting, you support both the publishing of the next issue and the growth of our organization.
